In an exclusive statement to SADA, the EU ambassador to Libya Bettina Muscheidt said that the union considers Libya as a prime economic partner as it will work in the coming years to implement this

She said that during an event organized by the EU delegation in Tripoli which was an informal discussion with Libyan youth and civil society organizations in Tripoli on Europe Day

The discussion was divided into three parts, the first has discussed how Libyans look at the EU, the second has discussed the mutual values of Libya and the EU, and the third part talked about the future of the two sides

One of the attendees Mohamed Alnajem who is the chairman of the Libyan Center for Press Freedom (LCPF) has told SADA that he believes in the importance of breaking the barriers between Libya’s civil society activists and representatives of the EU

Asking him about the required role should be played by Libyan activists in this regard, especially there are many Libyans accusing the EU of selling them nice words without any achievements on the ground

“This is very important point; the EU is a large continental institution which has no united policy towards the Libyan files. But I believe in that civil society leaders must work on uniting the mutual values with the EU such human rights, independence of judiciary, protect rights of communities and other mutual values,” Alnajem answered

On the other hand, another attendee who is human rights activist has criticized the EU performance in Libya, described it as just a superficial

“Though I encourage such kind of discussions and sessions but I think that the EU is not serious enough to make something positive in Libya and just sufficed by setting conferences and arranging events,” he said.

There is news has circulated recently about the intention of some international institution, including the EU delegation in Libya, to return operate from Tripoli once again
